Shakopee is proud to offer an extensive and growing trail system, with more than 85 miles of paved trails for community members to enjoy. As the City continues to grow, additional trails are being added to enhance connectivity and recreation. Each year, the City identifies trails to receive a reconstruction, rehabilitation, or new sealcoat to extend the life of the trail and its bituminous surface.

Trail Sealcoating
Every five to six years, the City applies a sealcoat to paved trails. This process is similar to the sealcoating often applied to residential streets. The sealcoat helps protect the asphalt from:
- Weather
- Sun exposure
- Wear from use
Crack Sealing
In addition to sealcoating, crack sealing is performed as part of routine maintenance to fix small cracks that naturally develop in asphalt due to weather fluctuations and general use. Crack sealing helps prevent water infiltration that can cause further deterioration and potholes.
