CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATES: City facilities are open to the public. The Shakopee Community Center will reopen July 6. Find the latest updates at

To protect its streets from being torn up due to sewer service line failures, the city introduced a new multi-year project in 2015 to strengthen privately owned sanitary sewer lateral pipes.

Contractors use a no-dig method to install a new pipe inside the existing lateral pipe from the sewer main to a point just beyond the street edge. This technique has been shown to strengthen pipes and reduce the chance of failure.
