Equal and fair access to rental housing and home-ownership opportunities is an essential tenet in the United States' federal and Minnesota's state housing policies. Fair Housing laws, both federal and state, cover virtually all types of housing in Minnesota. The City of Shakopee strives to provide its residents with the resources and information to aid in the advancement of their state and federally recognized civil rights.
The City Council approved a Fair Housing Policy [PDF] in May 2019.

Fair Housing Complaint Process
If you are a resident and have any further questions or would like to speak to staff about a potential violation, you may contact the Department of Planning and Development at 952-233-9300 or by email to planning@ShakopeeMN.gov. City staff may provide information and limited record keeping for fair housing complaints, but the city does not handle the intake or processing of fair housing complaints, all complaints need to be filed with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights.
