About the City of Shakopee
Residents are represented by a Mayor and four City Council members. Each of them has one vote when making decisions. They serve four-year terms, with elections held every two years during the November general election.
Shakopee City Council members are elected "at-large," meaning they represent the whole city, not specific neighborhoods or districts.
The City provides services in the areas of public safety, parks and recreation, planning and zoning, building inspections, public works (streets, sanitary sewer and storm sewers) and general administration. Daily operation of the City is performed by various departments under the supervision of the city administrator. City services are provided by a staff of 150 full-time, 200 part-time, and more than 300 seasonal employees.
