Upcoming/Future Projects
Minnesota Riverbank Stabilization
This project would reduce flooding and erosion risk to critical municipal infrastructure and significant cultural resources.

  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources lists the Minnesota River as an impaired body of water. Riverbank erosion is one of the many sources and in Shakopee, the river has eroded the riverbank considerably over the last 100 years, upward of 100 feet.
  • Erosion also poses a risk to a critical municipal trunk sanitary sewer line that runs parallel along the river.
  • The Minnesota River Valley is home to significant cultural resources and the project will preserve and protect many historic sites along the river, including burial mounds.
Project Area
The project would stretch the banks of the Minnesota River, from Huber Park to Memorial Park.

Funding
This project is estimated at $12,456,000 with current support from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, Scott County Historical Society and the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District. Other future partners include the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Army Corp of Engineers, Scott County and Hennepin County (Three Rivers Park District). The project timing and status are dependent on receiving federal funds. Funding is yet to be determined.
