Canterbury Road/Fourth Avenue intersection to reopen Sept. 15
The intersection of County Highway 83 (Canterbury Road) and Fourth Avenue is anticipated to reopen Saturday, Sept. 15 as crews complete work on the County Highway 83 Intersection Improvements at Fourth Avenue project.
Preserve Trail closed through mid-September
Preserve Trail is closed from County Highway 18 heading east to Shakopee city limits. As part of the city’s pavement preservation program, Wm. Mueller & Sons has been hired to do a full depth reconstruction of Preserve Trail. This will require a full road closure at County Highway 18. Residents and service vehicles will be permitted access from Stagecoach Road, Boiling Springs Lane and the east end of Preserve Trail.
Scott County continues work on County Highway 16 overlay
Scott County is currently overlaying County Highway 16 (17th Avenue) between Marschall Road and Marystown Road. This project includes the removal and replacement of five inches of bituminous pavement, improving the pedestrian ramps to meet standards and replacing drain tile. Work is anticipated to wrap up by Sept. 15.
Work continues on 17th Avenue pedestrian crossing system
Weather has pushed back the completion of paving on County Highway 16 (17th Avenue) and activation of the school pedestrian crossing flashers systems. Paving will be completed and activation of temporary pedestrian systems starting with the Jackson Elementary and High School crossings the week of Sept. 10. The temporary pedestrian crossings systems at Sun Path Elementary and Shakopee Area Catholic School are currently scheduled for the week of Sept 17.
Traffic will be single lane with two way traffic on the north side of County Highway 16 between Brittney Drive and Independence Drive. The speed limit in the construction zone has been reduced to 25 mph.
Trail rehabilitation, overlay work along Vierling Drive
Crews have begun work on the 2018 trail rehabilitation and overlay projects. This project consists of a full reclamation of the existing trail along the south side of Vierling Drive and a portion of the Upper Valley Drainage Trail, then paving a new bituminous overlay. New handicap accessible concrete pedestrian ramps will be installed at all trail entrances. Construction will be completed by the end of September.
CenterPoint to perform annual maintenance work
CenterPoint Energy will be working along and in streets, alleyways and boulevards in Shakopee to perform general work on its natural gas utilities. Work will be intermittent from June through October. After work is completed, a different crew will return to replace sod, pavement and rock in alleyways. Please stay back from the work area. Vierling Drive closed west of Taylor Street
Vierling Drive is closed between the mall entrance and Taylor Street through the winter. This section of Vierling Drive will be constructed and completed in summer 2018.
Pedestrian bridge at Memorial Park removed
The Minnesota Valley State Trail's Mill Pond channel pedestrian crossing is closed. The bridge, located on the northern edge of Memorial Park, has been removed. The city is working with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and other partners to explore options for repairing, replacing or completely removing the bridge.
