City to cancel some events and programming
MN Dept of Health issues guidelines that effect some Community Center, Ice Arena activities
The Minnesota Department of Health has issued a series of community-level strategies to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Based on the recommendations, staff has made the decision to close the Senior Lounge, Kids Cove and The Lookout indoor playground at the Community Center, effective at 5 p.m. Friday, March 13 until further notice. This also includes Monday and Wednesday playtime at the Community Center.
We’ve also made the following decisions to cancel, until further notice:
- All scheduled active older adult events
- All events, classes, programs or meetings in excess of 250 people, which includes this weekend's hockey tournament and the April 4 Egg Hunt
- Park and Recreation Advisory Board meetings
At this time, the Community Center and Ice Arena remain open.
The health and safety of our residents and members is of the utmost concern to us, and by limiting gatherings we can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please note that this list could change, and residents should look for further updates from the city.
Parks and Recreation staff will work with residents to issue refunds and credits for canceled events and programs. All other activities are expected to continue as scheduled. However, this is an active and rapidly changing situation, so please stay tuned for updates from the City of Shakopee.
