Shakopee Fire responds to residential fire in downtown Shakopee
Fire believed to have started in the kitchen
Shakopee, Minn. – Shakopee Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a twin home in the 300 block of Lewis Street at 8:14 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire and smoke coming through the roof of the 318 unit. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the unit. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
No one was in the building at the time. However, three cats from the twin home are missing. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
One firefighter from the Chaska Fire Department was treated on site for heat exhaustion.
The state fire marshal is investigating the incident. At this time, the unit appears to be a total loss. Departments from Mdewakanton Public Safety, Chaska and Savage provided mutual aid.
