Shakopee Fire responds to fire at TimberCreek Furniture

Post Date:06/04/2019 1:57 pm

Shakopee, Minn. – Shakopee Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from TimberCreek Furniture, 1038 First Ave. E., Shakopee, at 9:18 p.m. Monday, June 3.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy black smoke coming from the building. After investigating, firefighters were able to locate the source of the smoke and extinguished the fire. No one was in the building at the time, and there were no injuries.

Everything inside the building is considered a loss due to fire and smoke damage. At this point, it is unknown whether the structure is a loss. The building did not have a fire sprinkler system, as it was built prior to building code sprinkler requirements.

“Had the building been sprinkled, we probably would not have had this extent of property loss,” said Fire Chief Rick Coleman. “This is a sad reminder of the importance of fire sprinkler systems in minimizing damage.”

The state fire marshal is investigating the incident. Departments from Mdewakanton Public Safety, Chaska, Prior Lake and Savage provided mutual aid.
