The Shakopee City Council met Tuesday, April 3. Among the meeting highlights:
Council amends city code related to landscaping and tree preservation
The City Council approved an ordinance amending the landscape, screening and tree preservation sections of city code. The changes address several issues that have arisen in application of previous code language, as well as comments received by the development community and residents. Some changes include setting buffer standards between land uses, changing code to allow for trees per parking space versus lot square footage, providing larger incentives for saving significant trees and eliminates financial security requirements for upfront escrows. City to create parks, recreation, trails and open space steering committee
The city plans to create a steering committee to assist in parks, trails, open space and recreation planning. The committee will include community representatives from various user groups, commissions and advisory boards, businesses and residents. Council approves revisions to personnel handbook
The City Council approved revisions to the city’s personnel handbook, which was recently updated to clarify requirements, authorities, roles or responsibilities; align policy with organizational practice; and improve efficiency within the city organization. City to join Livable Communities Program
The City Council approved joining the Metropolitan Council’s Livable Communities Program, a voluntary program that provides grants to communities for local economic revitalization, affordable housing initiatives and development or redevelopment that connects different land uses and transportation. Council approves contract for 2018 sanitary sewer televising project
The City Council approved a contract in the amount of $47,016.72 with American Environmental LLC for the 2018 sanitary sewer televising project. The annual project ensures all the city’s sanitary sewer mains are inspected every 10 years. The city plans to televise 130,603 feet of sewer pipe in 2018. Council renews park restroom cleaning contract
The City Council approved its annual park restroom cleaning contract in the amount of $32,005.04 with Treasure Enterprises. The contract runs from April 2018 through March 2019. More information: Mike Hullander, Public Works Superintendent, 952-233-9554.
Council purchases lawn mowers, paint striper
The City Council approved the purchase and replacement of the following Public Works equipment:
- Three John Deere 1570 mowers in the amount of $21,300 from Kibble Equipment
- A Titan 6955 line paint striper in the amount of $12,988.11 from Sherwin Williams
