Active fun with Parks and Recreation

Updated: 01/10/2019

The New Year is already underway, and Shakopee’s Parks and Recreation Department has some fantastic opportunities you’ll want to check out!

Three women using bar for fitness workoutDon’t miss the free Fitness Sampler at the Community Center from 8-11 a.m. this Saturday (Jan. 12). Come meet our instructors and try out a mini class of our group exercise offerings. You can enter a drawing to win prizes, and when you sign-up for a Community Center membership at the event, your enrollment fee will be waived.

If the weather cooperates, you can take your skates to hit one of our 12 sheets of outdoor ice (six hockey, six pleasure). When the weather is a bit too warm to skate outside, you can still enjoy open skating from 10 a.m. to noon every weekday at the Shakopee Ice Arena. You’ve still got time to sign up for the March session of Learn to Skate if you want to work on your ice-skating skills yet this season.

If you desire warmer activities, grab your swimsuit and a towel and head to the indoor aquatic center, which has something for everyone with water on their mind: lap swim, deep water and water aerobics, tot time in the zero-depth entry pool, open swim and a broad menu of Learn to Swim classes to meet your skill need.

No matter your age, no matter your interest, staff is working hard to offer opportunities for you to make 2019 one of your best years ever!  Be sure to check out all the other fun stuff for you to do this winter offered by Shakopee’s Parks and Recreation Department.
