The Shakopee Fire Department has always had a strong belief in training; training hard and training often to be the best we can when it counts. As a continuation of that effort, the department recently sent four firefighters to the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Ind.

Four fighters standing in front of a bannerFDIC is the premier fire training conference and exhibition in the world. Organizers pride themselves on providing comprehensive training for today’s serious firefighter and bringing top companies to showcase the latest tools and technology designed to save lives, all in one venue.

Four Shakopee firefighters attended the week-long conference attending two days of hands-on-training and three days of classroom sessions and exhibitors. They received world-class training from top-notch instructor’s on topics such as fire behavior, search and rescue, vehicle extrication, leadership and many others. They were also fortunate enough to receive training on some relatively new topics like firefighter health and wellness, using technology for training and unmanned aerial vehicles.

All the instructors at FDIC are deemed to be leading experts in their field. Most have years of experience in firefighting and training firefighters, some on large full-time fire departments such as FDNY and the Chicago Fire Department.

The firefighters who attended received training that would be very difficult, if not impossible, to get anywhere else. They are then able to bring their knowledge back and share it with their colleagues so the entire Shakopee Fire Department benefits. And, even more importantly, the residents and visitors of Shakopee benefit from having highly trained and proficient firefighters ready to respond no matter what their emergency is.
