Free yard waste drop-off this fall

Updated: 09/06/2017

Mark your calendars now for each Sunday in September and October: Yard waste drop off is FREE from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's Organics Recycling Facility (ORF)

Why drop off yard waste for free recycling?

  • Saves you money on pick-up and disposal service fees.
  • It is illegal to divert yard waste into drains, ditches and streets. It clogs our storm drainage systems resulting in flooding.
  • Repurpose your waste. A complete, sustainable cycle for waste gives nutrients back to plants, improves soil quality and helps conserve water. The end-product naturally fertilizes our lands and farms.
  • Renewable fuel for energy by processing wood.
  • It is illegal to put yard waste in our household garbage. The methane by-product is 23 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Public Works staff from Shakopee, Prior Lake and Savage team up with the ORF to offer this service to Scott County residents. Staff direct residents where to go and can even assist residents unloading their vehicles for those needing an extra hand.

Skip the line and drop off any other day for a small fee.

See you on Sunday at 1905 Mystic Lake Drive S., Shakopee! For more information, call the ORF at 952-233-9191 or visit the yard waste section on our website.
