Maintenance-free homes are not maintenance free
There was a time when people selling homes would say, "This home is maintenance free."
Then, after a while, the windows started to leak. Cracks grew larger where the steps met the house. The apron in front of the garage door sunk. All of these things could have been prevented with simple maintenance - and a substance called caulk.
When’s the last time you checked the vents? The dryer vent on the outside of your house needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. This will make your dryer work much better and may even prevent a house fire.
Speaking of house fires, are your house numbers installed? Are they visible and readable from the street? Is the lettering a contrasting color to your house? Brass numbers on a brick background is not the best choice.
Building and fire codes require house numbers for a reason. In an emergency, time is of the essence. If we can’t find you – we can’t help you.
One last thing. Are your gutters (if installed) clean and in good shape? Has the soil or grass next to your home sunk? You may need to bring in extra dirt to raise the drainage away from your foundation. Otherwise, you may get unwanted water into your basement, which can lead to mold and mildew creating health problems for you, your family and pets.
