Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources

The Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department provides services to residents and guests that help make Shakopee a great place to live, work and play. The Department is guided by the City’s appointed Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Environmental Advisory Committee

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the development and use of the City’s 920-acre park and open space system
  • Operating special facilities such as the Community Center, Enigma Teen Center, Ice Arena, Aquatic Park, Joe Schleper Stadium and the Youth Building
  • Ensuring that the City's natural resources are protected during the development process and enhanced after development is complete
  • Providing a wide range of recreation and sports programs for youth, adults and senior populations
  • Working closely with the City's eleven affiliated youth sports associations, three adult sports leagues, and two town baseball teams
