Sewer project to disrupt bike traffic along Highway 101
With work continuing on the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services sewer improvement project, the Blue Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant in Shakopee is temporarily re-directing all plant traffic to its west gate in August and September.
Due to limited visibility at this gate for bicyclists on the Minnesota Valley State Trail along Highway 101 and drivers leaving the plant, bicyclists are encouraged to heed stop signs when approaching the plant.
To make sure bicyclists remain safe during this transition, the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services and the Department of Natural Resources are posting additional trail signs near the plant’s west entrance, communicating with plant employees and drivers and reaching out to local bicycle advocacy groups.
