Protecting your mail from theft
In the past couple years, the Shakopee Police Department has seen an increase in mail theft. Thus, it is important you know how to protect your mail.
Sgt. Angela Trutnau urges residents and businesses to “be cautious and make sure you know your mail.”
- Be aware of what you’re expecting in the mail. That way you know something is up if it doesn’t arrive.
- Have a special place for deliveries out of sight of the street. For example, you could ask your mailman or delivery driver to drop your packages off in the backyard.
- If you’re going on vacation, talk to the post office and ask it to hold your mail and packages for a week.
Overall, make sure to be aware of what is happening in your neighborhood.
